NJVA Mourns the Passing of President Eric Model

The NJVA mourns the passing our of president, Eric Model. He died July 10th at NYU Hospital of a heart attack after complications following brain surgery on June 17th. As many of our members know, Eric suffered a stroke several years ago and lived with the possibility of an early death ever since. He never allowed his uncertain health to alter his plans or diminish his life. He continued to be active and enthusiastic about the business, not only running his own company but remaining fully engaged in our organization both as vice-president and, most recently, our president. For all this we are grateful. He will be sorely missed.

Holding dual degrees in Mass Media and Photography from Plattsburgh State University, Eric was active in the video industry for many years, working in practically every aspect of television production. This included jobs with NBC, UPN-9 and News12 NJ, and in positions ranging from studio tech & lighting director, to live field cameraman and editor.

He was the owner of Reel Moments Video, garnering many awards over the years, including the WEVA Gold Creative Excellence Award. He was a pioneer in the same-day-edit and presented workshops at a number of WEVA conventions.

He leaves his wife, Nancy and two young children, Timothy, 7, and Avery, 2. The funeral was held on July 14th at the Hellman Memorial Chapel in Spring Valley, New York, followed by burial at Sharon Gardens, in Valhalla, NY.  The service was videotaped and a short edit should be uploaded soon.

A donation website has been created by Eric’s close friend Evan Soloff to assist Eric’s family in this difficult time.  Eric was in the process of getting life insurance in 2008 when his first stroke happened, making him uninsurable.  He had no life insurance.  Please visit the site Evan created at
